Calling in the Reinforcements

August 23, 2010

What’s a bride with a ridiculously long to do list and only a  couple weeks until the wedding to do? Call on her family and friends for help, that’s what!

This weekend, we headed down to my parents’ house for a weekend of wedding crafting. While Mr. Jelly studied for an MBA class final, we got down to work.

Papa Jelly cut slits in corks for our cork place cards. For those of you following along, we decided on the traditional horizontal design (http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/06/07/winery-wedding-decor/).

Mama Jelly cut paper for our lovely menus.

Auntie Jelly made wine charms for our wine charm escort cards (http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/03/22/charmed-i%E2%80%99m-sure/).

Papa Jelly and I made 240 wax gold seals (following Mrs. Sew’s great tutorial (http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/03/18/manvites-all-sealed-up/)), then hot glued them onto our menus and mounted the menus onto cardstock with spray adhesive. All in one day. Here is our finished menu:

A labor of love.

In less than 12 hours, we managed to make 230 menus, finish up the wine charms, finalize seating arrangements, cut out 24 table numbers and make signage for the candy buffet. Many hands make light work, indeed!!

In addition to getting help from my family this weekend, I’ve been delegating tasks a lot more. With only 2 weeks to go, I just don’t have the time to be a control-freak anymore. I’ve put Mama Jelly in charge of bathroom baskets, asked my design-y friends to help with designing paper products (like the menus, programs and table numbers) and generally become more laid back about my DIY projects. They don’t have to be perfect, they just have to get done.

Has your wedding crafting been a family (or friend) affair?
